[New paper]: Field deployment of a man-portable stand-off laser-induced breakdown spectrometer: A preliminary report on the expedition to the Cumbre Vieja volcano (La Palma, Spain, 2021)

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sab.2022.106391 Report on the 2021 scientific expedition to the Cumbre Vieja volcano eruption. Stand-off laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy is assessed for volcano monitoring. A new instrument was purpose-designed, built and tested in-situ. A rationale of the instrument development and testing is provided. Preliminary qualitative and semiquantitative results are discussed.

[New paper]: Towards airborne laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy: A signal recovery method for LIBS instruments subjected to vibrations

https://doi.org/10.1016/j.sab.2022.106391 Drone vibrations spread LIBS impacts across the sample surface. Measurements are unreliable as they mix information from many spots. The spot positions can be obtained from sample images in sync with the laser. Regions of interest in the sample are used to assess resolution and uncertainty. Spatial resolution is 40 μm per meter to … More [New paper]: Towards airborne laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy: A signal recovery method for LIBS instruments subjected to vibrations

We take on the challenge for La Palma and our IGME colleagues at the volcano

For the first time, laser induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) will face the wrath of an active volcano. In early November we will travel to La Palma and try to measure the lava composition in collaboration with our colleagues from the Instituto Geológico Minero de España (IGME, CSIC) in a joint effort to minimize the risks … More We take on the challenge for La Palma and our IGME colleagues at the volcano
